Does money equal power? Most people would say yes since you can provide for your family and yourself. Some people with too much money feel too powerful and that’s where the problem stands. That’s how powerful the rich can be, they can boast all they want and take most of the national currency. Paul Piff is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology and Social Behavior at the University of California, Irvine. He studies human behavior such as social hierarchy and inequality between certain groups of people. With wealth comes greed. Most wealthy people choose to spend their money on unnecessary things while their community is suffering. They usually look down on others rather than helping them out. This could bring the ugly out of people causing them to rude and greedy. To some money equals power so the more money you have to more power you have. With that being said being around someone who’s a lower class than you is unacceptable in society. The rich stay away from low level cities such as the “Projects” while the middle class and lower class stay away from rich areas such as Beverly Hills. This can cause each class to ignore each other and not seem equal. Most wealthy business owners make more than their workers by ten percent. If so then the business owners should be working ten times as hard as their employees. In reality it isn’t true business owners make at least 50 times as much as their employees and work less as hard. As Paul Piff studied the more money someone gets the more prone he or she is to look down on someone else. They seem to have “power” over the other person. Such as the monopoly test the more times the player won money the more prideful he was telling his opponent “I’m untouchable.” The higher you go the more power you get is a statement but it’s true in society. People adopt this motto of money equals power. They live by it every day it only causes division not unity.
