Michael Sandel teaches political philosophy at Harvard, exploring some of the most hotly contested moral and political issues of our time. He explains how criminals have a good side along with a bad side. This could be said with Perry Smith from In cold blood. Perry was a good person but he got caught up in a horrible situation. Mr. Sandel explains how the justice system is too harsh on criminals with torturer and death. Mr. Sandel explains that a father or mother could rob a drug store to provide medicine for their family. Does that mean that parent is a cold blooded criminal and deserve a harsh sentence? I personally disagree because although the person did the commit the crime no matter the reason they will have to serve the time. However Mr. Sandel disagrees. He states that everyone is human and makes mistakes and the price for that mistake shouldn't be as harsh. In my opinion I think the justice system is okay, and that making the justice system soft will allow dangerous criminals back on the street.
