Parul Sehgal is an editor for "The New York Times Book Review." She explains how envoy and jealousy has shaped literature and life. How jealousy influences stories such as the Great Gatsby and Shakespeare's writings. She also explains how jealousy search for painful truth, and humiliation. These statements could be said the in the book, "Crucible" by Arthur Miller. Abigail is jealous of Elizabeth and the relationship with John Proctor. This jealousy pushed Abigail to the edge trying to cast witchcraft and curses at Elizabeth. In the end Abigail blames Elizabeth of witchcraft so that she could be hanged. Along with Abigail's jealousy, envoy is also present between Rebecca and Mrs. Putnam. Mrs. Putnam lost seven children during birth while Rebecca had over 5 healthy children. Mrs. Putnam thinks that Rebecca looks down on her, but that's far from the truth. Mrs. Sehgal states that jealousy is way in culture that people wish they had things that others didn't. With this being said envoy and jealousy is what caused the mass hysteria in Salem.
